Red is a color which represents passion, love and power. Even though red is a great color, nearly every person is guilty of not understanding the rule to wearing it. We find the use of red everywhere in our daily lives, in marketing campaigns, fragrance ads and TV shows. Here are some of tips and thoughts on the color red and also the main rule to including it in your ensemble.
What Red Represents
Remember Jessica Rabbit’s famous red sparkling gown? How about the comedian Lucille Ball who was well known for her bright red, curly head of hair? You can also look at one of the most influential red marketing items in the world, Coca Cola. As you can see, red has a strong presence in our culture. It is bold and must be approached with extreme caution as it can easily be used the wrong way.
Brighter shades of red are often seen as a sign of power. Many Business Executives will wear a bright pop of red when attending business meetings, annual parites or networking events in order to stand out among a large crowd.
Darker shades of red are used to create ambience and represent seduction and luxury. In commercial advertisements, women are often seen wearing scarlet lipsticks while sipping on burgundy wine in order to sell us on the idea that we need what they have.
The One Rule Of Wearing Red
The reason I call it the ‘one rule’ is because it stands for what it means. Red is so extravagant and loud that you should only wear it in one part of your wardrobe. For women, it can be cherry nail polish or a pair of ruby earrings. Men, a red tie can make a bold statement or go for a vintage look with some apple trimmed glasses.
When deciding on how to wear your red item, think about some of the fashion mistakes you have seen people make. Should you really match your belt to your hat? Is it necessary to blind people with your red themed obsession? When I was seven years old, I went to school wearing a red dress and red heels because I was in love with the Jessica Rabbit character. Of course it was a terrible choice but I blame it on the fact that I was a child. As Cocoa Chanel was famous for saying, before you leave the house, take one of your accessories off.
I hope that some of my tips have helped you succeed in new ideas for showing off your most special red items. In the end, fashion is meant to be fun, so enjoy yourself and stand proud with your red.
